Mads Hansen
Meet Mads “Batmads” Hansen, a California native whose tattoo journey began in the streets of North Park, San Diego, in 2019. Initially immersed in body painting and SFX makeup, Mads found her true calling in the tattoo industry. Captivated by the idea of creating more personal artwork that lasts a lifetime. Her path led her to Japan, where amidst bartending, she honed her tattooing skills, eventually finding a home at Black Ink Tattoo in Okinawa. Under the guidance of mentor Yoshiki-san, Mads had the opportunity to collaborate with artists from diverse backgrounds across Japan, Korea, Brazil, and other parts of Southeast Asia. Her signature style intertwines hyper-feminine imagery with gothic and spooky undertones, focusing on high-contrast shading and subject matter. From Micro-Realism to character design, to ornamental work and more, Mads’s repertoire is as diverse as it is captivating. Outside the studio, she indulges in fantasy literature, gaming, and miniature painting, drawing inspiration from vintage aesthetics to fuel her creative endeavors.
