Gabriel Bayles, otherwise known in the tattoo community as “Big Gabe”, was born and raised in the 1st Ward of Houston Texas. He graduated from Reagan High School and studied audio engineering at the Art Institute of Houston. After that, he bounced around, working many different jobs. Tattooing presented itself to him at a young age, and later he pursued his dream of becoming a tattooer. Around 2003, he began working at various shops throughout the Houston area. In 2007 he found himself being granted the honor and privilege to work for Dan Martin at Scorpion Studios. He worked there for 13 years before coming to work with his brother and friend Tracy here at Painstaking Art. Gabe specializes in large scale Japanese work but also loves going back to his roots with black and gray as well as traditional Americana.
